Graduation of Voice Citizen Journalists

The baton is passed from hand to hand, signifying hope and human perseverance to spread peace and endurance to the Syrian people. To amplify the voices of Syrian refugees and what they are going through; that was the mission of the Voice citizen journalists who dedicated their time and efforts for this cause.

A group of our 10 citizen journalists completed their training where throughout the past two months they played an important role in their communities and will continue to do so long after. During the graduation, the women thanked the ARDD-Legal Aid team for their efforts and the skills that they have now acquired. The citizen journalists applied those skills to tell the human stories of refugees showcasing their suffering as well their hopes and aspirations for the future.

Citizen journalist, Rima, spoke for the group and expressed the change that they experienced and their wish to keep on writing and having their stories published to tell the Syrian refugee story.

ARDD-Legal Aid has trained 25 women through the Voice project on citizen journalism skills.

تنتقل الراية من يد إلى يد، راية الأمل والإرادة القوية لنشر المحبة والسلام ليكونوا عوناً يتحدى الصعاب لرفع صوت كل سوري يعاني من ويلات اللجوء وأنات الوطن المكلوم فكانت هنا مهمة الصحفيات المجتمعيات اللواتي كن يضعن أيدهن على الجرح السوري ليسمع صوته في أرجاء العالم

أتمت نخبة من السوريات التدريبات التي تؤهلهن ليصبحن صحفيات مجتمعيات فاعلات في مجتمعهن ويكن القلب السوري النابض الذي يسمع صداه في جميع أنحاء العالم، وفد أثنت المجموعة على جميع الجهود التي بذلها فريق أرض- العون القانوني من خلال تدريبهن وتمكينهن من الكتابة بشكل أفضل لنقل ألم ووجع السوريين بالإضافة إلى آمالهم وتطلعاتهم المستقبلية

وقد أعربت المجموعة بكلمة ألقتها الصحفية المجتمعية ريما عن النقلة النوعية التي أحسسنها بكتاباتهن بفعل التدريبات القيمة التي تلقينها، كما أعربت المجموعة أيضاً عن رغبتهن بالاستمرار بالكتابة، فربما قد يتمكنّ يوماً ما من نشر جميع هذه القصص التي عاشها السوريين جراء الأزمة

 ويُذكر أن فريق أرض- العون القانوني قام  بتخريج نخبة من الصحفيات المجتمعيات لينضموا بذلك إلى الرفيقات اللواتي سبقنهن على درب التألق والعطاء

Mohammad’s Story

Mohammad is a child like all others, or he was like all others. At 8 months old, he had a loving home and a caring family. This was until a bomb fell on his house, killing his parents and his four siblings, and leaving him with wounds that a young child can barely endure.

Mohammad’s relatives took care of him, but his grandma, who had previously fled to Jordan, felt that she needed to raise her grandson. This way, maybe she can regain a sense of tenderness after the loss that she had experienced. Mohammad was transferred across the border, while his wounds were weighing down on his frail body. It took three days, after which his grandma welcomed him with tears in her eyes. She held him close, hoping he can feel her love and care, and that she can be a mother to him after he had lost his own. Mohammad will grow up, and his wounds will heal; but what will help him overcome the bitterness of losing his entire family?

قصة محمد

محمد طفل صغير كباقي الأطفال يبلغ من العمر ثمانية أشهرأو بالأحرى  كان كباقي الأطفال، لديه بيت يأويه وأهل يحبونه، إلى أن سقطت قذيفة على منزله لتقتل أباه وأمه وإخوته الأربعة، و تتركه يعيش بجراح عميقة ويُتمِ لا يقوى عليه طفل بهذا العمر

 اعتنى أقرباء محمد به جيداً لكن جدته التي كانت تعيش في الأردن ضاق صدرها لما ذاقته من ألم الفقدان، فأرادت أن تربّي محمد علّها تعوّضه بعضاً من الحنان الذي فقده. حُمِّلَ محمد إلى الحدود بينما كانت الجراح قد أثخنت جسده الصغير وبعد ثلاثة أيام وصل محمد لتستقبله جدته بالبكاء والألم الذي يقطع أواصر قلبها فضمته إلى صدرها لعله يحس بالأمان وأي حضن دافئ بعد حضن أمه إلا حضن جدته. سيكبر محمد و ستشفى جراحه لكن من سينسيه مرارة اليتم، يا ترى هل ستتكفل الأيام بذلك

Launch of the Voices of the Future Initiative

Monday saw the launch of the Voices of the Future initiative in our offices in Zarqa. We were joined by 65 students; both male and female, alongside the Voice team to engage the students in English classes, arts activities, and poetry writing. Only a few minutes after introductions, you could feel the enthusiasm building up in the groups as everyone was contributing to the activities, kicking off our first day with positive vibes.

ARDD-Legal Aid’s Voices of the Future project: Moving Forward Together and that’s how our first day ended, with smiles on everyone’s faces.

It’s important for a community to come together to determine its priorities, and stemming from that, on Wednesday we had our second meeting with the bright students who came full of energy. They were all eager to learn, contribute, and expand their horizons.

As the Voices of the Future team, we were also very excited and happy to see those smiles. Happiness to us is seeing those students of different ages sharing their time with us through different activities that fit their needs.

We started by reading some poetry and then the students writing a poem of their own reflecting on what they identify with when they think about their home and about their community. Also before starting, the Voices of the Future team studied the community’s needs in the area that we are working in as a way for us to better design our program. This corresponds to our goal of contributing to the society and its youth to become able to make change.

انطلاقة مشروع أصوات المستقبل

يوم الاثنين ومن الزرقاء  كانت انطلاقة مشروع “أصوات المستقبل ” حيث انضم إلينا 65 طالب من الجنسين بالإضافة إلى فريق أصوات لمشاركة الكثير من الدروس في اللغة الانجليزية والنشاطات مابين الرسم والتلوين والنشاطات الحركية والألغاز وكتابة القصائد  ولم تمضي دقائق قليلة بعد التعارف حتى اشتعل الحماس بين الطلاب، شاركوا وتفاعلوا وكتبوا القصائد، ارتفعت الأيدي وانطلقت المنافسة

وهذه صور الانطلاقة يوم الاثنين23/6/2014 و انتهى ذلك اليوم برسم  الابتسامة على وجوه الجميع

من المهم للمجتمع أن يتعاون لتحديد أولوياته. وتحقيقًا لهذه الغاية، يوم الأربعاء25/6/2014 كان لقاءنا الثاني مع الطلاب اللامعين الذين حضروا وقد غمرتهم الحماسة للبدء والمشاركة في التفاعل ولتوسيع مداركهم ولتعلم كل ما هو جديد

غمرتنا نحن أيضا فريق أصوات المستقبل السعادة لأن تحقيق السعادة ليس في تحقيق الكمال، أو الثراء، أو امتلاك سلطة ونفوذ، تحقيق السعادة قد يمكن في رسم الابتسامة على وجوه من أعطى من وقته وشاركنا من هؤلاء الطلاب الذين التقيناهم من جديد على اختلاف أعمارهم وعلى اختلاف النشاطات المقدمة لهم لتتناسب معهم حسب احتياجاتهم. كانت قراءة القصائد هي البداية وقد أبدعوا بالكتابة والتعبير عن ما يجول في خاطرهم حول مفهوم المنزل والمجتمع

فريق أصوات المستقبل قام بعمل دراسة على أهم الاحتياجات المطلوبة لمنطقة الدراسة ومناقشتها حيث أن الفهم العميق للمجتمع واحتياجاته يعمل على إبراز الطريقة المناسبة لحل وتقديم الأفضل ولإتباع منهج متكامل من النشاطات والدروس  التي تعمل على دعم المجتمع وتحقيق الهدف وصنع شباب قادرين على التغيير

فالنهوض بالشباب وتسليط الضوء على أصوات اللاجئين هو هدف أساسي من أهداف أصوات المستقبل

The One Person Humanitarian Organization

She is a friend to those in need, a refuge for the tired. People might get weary, but not her. If you wanted to imagine her all you have to do is think of values of determination and perseverance. Where she lives, she is a legend of dedication and unconditional love. When you imagine that, you have come close to knowing Eman K.

Eman, a Jordanian woman, has dedicated her life to voluntary work; giving her time and effort to help those in need and feeling war and destruction. Her journey started in 1991 when Iraqis came to Jordan as a result of the gulf war. Eman was the compassionate hand that supported them with food and care. She was a role model to those around her, and an example for her community. Eman elevated the participation in voluntary work in her city, to the extent that one NGO calls her “The one person humanitarian organization”.

Eman has a lot of good relationships with local and international NGOs that consider her a reference for reaching out to the community in Zarqa.

My testimony of her might be biased due to my relationship with her, but all you have to do is go and ask about the angel of humanitarian assistance in Zarqa, and people will point to ‘Um Tareq’.

الجمعية الاغاثية المكونة من شخص واحد

هي صديقة المحرومين، ملاذ المتعبين، قد يصيب الوهن  المحتاجين  ولكنه لا يصيبها، إن أردت تخيلها فما عليك إلّا أن تجسّدها بمعايير الإصرار والإرادة، إنها تدنو لتكون أسطورة في الإخلاص والتفاني والمحبة اللامحدودة  ومثلها في الرحمة والإيثار فلعلك تكون قد اقتربت من شخصية ” إيمان خ

نذرت السيدة الأردنية “إيمان خ” حياتها للعمل التطوعي فكرست كل وقتها وجهدها لمساعدة المنكوبين من ويلات الحروب والدمار، فكانت من السباقين وبدأت مسيرتها في العام (1991) عندما توافد الإخوة العراقيين إلى الأردن أبان حرب الخليج، فكانت إيمان اليد الحنون التي تغيث ملهوفهم وتنجد جائعهم، فكانت قدوة لمن حولها ومثال يحتذى به في مجتمعها، فرفعت مستوى العمل التطوعي في مدينتها لحد أن تصفها إحدى هيئات الإغاثة العالمية “الجمعية الإغاثية المكونة من شخص واحد

ترتبط أيمان بالعديد من العلاقات رفيعة المستوى مع شتى الهيئات والمنظمات الدولية، التي تعتبرها مرجعاَ للعمل الإغاثي في مدينة الزرقاء

قد تكون شهادتي بها مجروحة بحكم معرفتي الوثيقة بها، لكن إن أردتم أن تسألوا أي شخص عن ملاك الإغاثة فحتماً سوف يشير إلى “أم طارق

Mourning My Brother

The entire time I was sitting with her, her tears didn’t stop flowing. She went through her brother’s pictures; remembering when they were taken, and crying bitterly for his loss. She wondered how her life will still have meaning after the loss of her brother. The news came as a shock to everyone, leaving them in denial and pain. This woman dedicates all her time now to easing the pain of her sister in law and of her brother’s children…there are very few people like this in our times! She told me, “I can’t say no to anything they ask of me, even if it comes at the expense of my own house.

I leave my home for hours to visit them; I talk to them and help them every day. I see in them my dear brother; they’re the only memory I have left of him. I pray to God not to take siblings away from each other.”

أبكيك أخي

لم تجف لها دمع طوال جلوسي معها وهي تقلب صور أخيها، تارة تتذكر المواقف التي التقطت بها الصور وتارة تذرف الدموع دمّاً على فراقه. فكيف يكون للحياة من معنى بعد فراق أخيها؟ فخبر موته صدم الجميع تاركهم في حالة من النكران وألم الفقدان، هي سيدة شغلها الشاغل تخفيف الهم عن زوجة أخيها وأبنائه، نعم وكم قلّ هذا النوع من الناس في أيامنا هذه! تقول: “لا أستطيع أن أرفض لهم طلباً، حتى ولو اضطررت أن أقصّر على بيتي

أترك بيتي لساعات طويلة لكي أذهب إليهم وأجلس إليهم أحادثهم وأساعدهم، إنني أرى بهم أخي الغالي، إنهم الذكرى الوحيدة المتبقية لي منه، فإنني أستطيع شم رائحة أخي فيهم…أدعو الله أن لا يحرم أي أخت من أخيها”
