The Voice team, along with Oxfam-GB and Action Aid, held an arts activity with women of different ages in Za’atri Camp. Over two days this week, the women participated by painting on ceramic tiles under the themes of gender-based violence (GBV) and violence against women (VAW), where more than 30 women and girls produced expressive paintings on what comes to their mind when speaking about GBV.
ARDD-Legal Aid’s Psycho-social Support Officer, Dr. Lina Al Darras, was present at the activities and conversed with the women about their ideas while they drew. In turn, the women discussed many ideas relating to VAW which is not only physical violence but can be verbal, economic, or social. The women expressed these ideas in different ways through their paintings; where they drew women being exposed to physical violence in their homes, girls being prohibited from going to school, women not being allowed to leave their houses or are sent away from them, as well as some drawings expressing their refusal of early marriage.
These activities are part of the 16 Days of Activism, which is a global campaign to end GBV, where many organizations join this campaign around the world. ARDD-Legal Aid, through its project Voice, will implement different activities across Jordan as part of this initiative.
