After continuous bombing for twenty one days in the neighborhood that Sumayya lives in with her husband and five children, she was forced to leave her home as it was destroyed by bombing and they cannot remain amidst the destruction. So the journey of homelessness began as they started looking for a shelter inside Syria, with the hopes of returning to their home later on. However, they were unable to find anywhere to stay and had to leave the country; families all over Syria were in the same position that they are in with destroyed houses and many are homeless. She and her family entered Jordan but no sooner had she felt some safety and security had she discovered a lump on her chest and so began a journey of treatment in a foreign country where she had to spend all that she has. As soon as she had gotten better she started looking for ways to provide for her family and spent her time going around charities to receive assistance like other refugees. She felt that this was stripping her of her dignity, however, and started looking for a job to earn some income. In the beginning she found a job that paid her 3 JDs a day and then went on to find another with a much better income, and after she sensed some stability she started looking for ways to be connected with her family back in Syria. She didn’t want to stand by and watch during this time where her country and people need her the most, and she can help them with something even as simple as a word… These are the roots that cannot be uprooted no matter how strong the winds blow, for they will grow again and give fruit to the land that feeds it.
